Celebrating Cicely Tyson

Cicely Tyson (1924-2021) built her award-winning acting career by choosing roles that had substance, refusing to play characters whom she saw as negative even if that meant turning down jobs.  An Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winner, Ms. Tyson was equally at home on the stage as well as in film and television.  Her storied career included Sounder, Roots, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, and A Trip to Bountiful (on stage and screen).  Younger audiences may know her from The Help, Tyler Perry’s movies, and the television show, How to Get Away with Murder. She was a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
