1,000 Books Before Kindergarten – For Preschoolers

Build a love of reading from the very beginning with 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This free early literacy program encourages families and caregivers to read regularly with children before they start kindergarten, helping build vocabulary, comprehension, and other skills that support future learning.

And 1,000 books is more doable than it sounds—reading just one book a day adds up quickly!

Families can also borrow 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten backpacks, each filled with a mix of picture books, board books, and early literacy tips. Browse and request a backpack in the catalog.
