Get a Library Card

There are two ways to obtain a Delaware County Libraries library card:

Online

Register online for a Delaware County Libraries card.

After completing the online registration form, a temporary barcode is issued, allowing limited resource access, such as placing holds. Full access, including digital resources like Libby by OverDrive, requires the physical card, which    will be mailed within three to five business days. You must verify your account at any Delaware County library within 30 days of receiving your physical card by showing your library card and photo ID. If not verified within 30 days, the card will expire.

In-Person

Please download and complete the application form, which is also available in the following languages:

Visit any of the 28 member libraries throughout Delaware County to register. You will need identification showing your current address within Delaware County, PA; a photo ID like a driver’s license is ideal.

A Delaware County Libraries card can be used in any of the 28 member libraries in the county and in most public libraries in Pennsylvania through the Access PA program. There is no minimum age for obtaining a library card, but those under 18 require a parent’s signature. There is a $3 fee for replacement of lost cards, and all outstanding fines must be cleared before a new card is issued.

Renewing Your Library Card

If your library card has expired, you may renew it by visiting any member library in Delaware County with your library card and identification to verify your address. Your card will then be renewed for an additional three (3) years.

Lost or Damaged Library Card

To obtain a replacement card, visit any member library and present a current photo ID at the circulation or customer service desk. There is a three-dollar ($3.00) fee to replace lost cards, and any outstanding fines must be paid before a new card is issued.

If you have forgotten your library card number, you may have it emailed to you by completing the online Forgot Library Card form.

Out-of-County Use

Your library card, if it has a blue Access PA sticker, can be used at most public libraries throughout Pennsylvania. Participating libraries display a similar sticker. For information on using your card in neighboring library systems, such as the Free Library of Philadelphia, Chester County Library System, Lower Merion Library System, or MCLINC, please refer to their respective websites.

In southeastern Pennsylvania, the only public libraries not participating in the Access PA program are the Wyomissing Public Library in Berks County and the Lansdale Public Library in Montgomery County (the Lansdowne Library in Delaware County does participate).

Non-Residents

Pennsylvania residents from outside Delaware County who hold a local library card featuring the blue Access PA sticker can register to use Delaware County Libraries member libraries. Nonresidents without an Access PA card may purchase a nonresident card, which is valid only at the library of purchase. Prices vary, and not all libraries offer this option.

Individuals who work or attend school in Delaware County and do not have an Access PA library card may use their work or school address to apply for a regular card.
