New Users: Getting Started with Libby
With Libby, you can enjoy free e-books, digital audiobooks, and magazines from your library. All you need is a library card. Follow the steps below to begin.
Step 1: Install Libby
Download and open the Libby app on your device:
- iOs devices: Available on the Apple App Store
- Android devices: Available on Google Play
- Amazon Fire tables: Available on the Amazon Appstore
- Windows, Mac, and Chromebooks: Visit libbyapp.com (Optimal performance on the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge)
Step 2: Set Up Your Account
In Libby, follow the prompts to find your library and sign in using your library card.
Step 3: Explore and Borrow
Browse your library’s extensive catalog. Select and borrow any book, audiobook, or magazine that captures your interest. Availability varies as each library curates its own collection.
Step 4: Manage Your Shelf
Your borrowed titles appear in the navigation footer under ‘Shelf.’ Here you can also manage your magazine subscriptions and access stored issues on the ‘Magazine Rack.’
Reading and Listening in Libby:
- Books and audiobooks automatically download when connected to Wi-Fi for offline enjoyment.
- Magazines require manual download to save space – simply tap the issue you want to download.
- Tap ‘Loans’ at the top of the screen to view your borrowed books and audiobooks.
- Choose your reading option with ‘Read With…’ – either send books to your Kindle (U.S. libraries only) or read directly in Libby.
- Begin reading or listening be selecting ‘Open In Libby’ or ‘Open Audiobook.’
- Manage your loans efficiently with options to renew or return items early.
- Scroll down to the Magazine Rack to see your magazines.
- Start reading any magazine by tapping on its cover.
- Access options like downloading for offline reading or subscribing to future issues by tapping ‘Title Status: Ready to Open.’

New Users: Getting Started with Overdrive
Explore the Delaware County Library’s digital collection of e-books, audiobooks, and magazines. Follow the steps below to get started.
Step 1: Access the Collection
Open DCL’s digital collection via Libby or Overdrive.com.
Step 2: Borrow a Title
Browse the collection and click on ‘Borrow’ for an available title. Alternatively, click the title’s jacket to view its details and learn more. If prompted, sign in with your library card.
Step 3: Choose a Lending Period
Select your preferred lending period, then click ‘Borrow’ again.
Step 4: After Borrowing, You Have Several Options
- Read now with Kindle (U.S. only): Go to Amazon’s website and send the book to your Kindle or Kindle reading app. Learn more about how to borrow Kindle Books here.
- Read Online: Enjoy eBooks or eMagazines directly in your web browser. Learn more about reading in your browser here.
- Listen Online: Stream audiobooks right in your web browser. Learn more about listening in your browser here.
- Download eBooks: Download an EPUB or PDF eBook to Adobe Digital Editions software for free. From there, transfer eBooks to supported eReaders.
- Continue Browsing: Close the pop-up window to keep browsing and borrowing more titles.
Step 5: Manage Your Loans
To view all your borrowed titles, select ‘Loans’ at any time to visit your Loans page.
