Rules of Conduct

Please respect the rights of other library users by:

  • Adhering to Library policies and these Rules of Conduct.
  • Refraining from behaviors that interrupt the tasks of staff and other users.
  • Collaborating with Library team members in interpreting and applying these rules.
  • Ensuring children under your care are adequately supervised.
  • Respecting the designated service areas.
  • Complying with all federal, state, and local laws.

For the comfort, safety, and well-being of library users, volunteers, and staff, as well as to protect Library property, the following conduct is prohibited on Library premises:

  • Disruptive behavior, including loud noises, shouting, screaming, or banging on computer keyboards.
  • Verbally threatening or harassing others, or using obscene/abusive language.
  • Using electronic devices at a volume that disturbs others, or speaking loudly on a cell phone.
  • Entering the Library without a shirt or shoes, removing them inside, or wearing disruptive attire.
  • Loitering without engaging in legitimate library activities.
  • Sleeping, lying down, or appearing to sleep on Library premises.
  • Using Library computers in violation of the Internet Safety Policy, including viewing pornographic websites.
  • Violating any Library policy.
  • Offensive body odor or personal hygiene that significantly hinders others’ ability to use the Library.
  • Using restrooms for bathing, laundering, or extensive personal hygiene.
  • Leaving personal belongings unattended.
  • Tampering with Library equipment or rearranging furniture without staff permission.
  • Children under the age of 10 must be supervised by a parent, guardian, or caregiver who is 13 years or older.
  • Bringing pets or animals, other than service animals, into the Library (unless part of a Library program).
  • Soliciting funds, signatures, votes, or political support.
  • Threatening or physically harassing others, including fighting or throwing objects.
  • Engaging in sexually harassing behaviors, such as stalking or indecent exposure.
  • Smoking, using tobacco products, or electronic cigarettes inside the Library.
  • Being under the influence of alcohol and/or controlled substances.
  • Removing books without proper checkout or tampering with security measures.
  • Damaging or defacing Library property.
  • Selling, distributing, or using alcohol or illegal drugs.
  • Carrying firearms, ammunition, or other dangerous weapons.

These rules will be enforced fairly and reasonably. Library staff, security, or local police (when absolutely necessary) will intervene to address prohibited activities and behaviors. Non-compliance with the Library’s established rules, guidelines, and policies may result in removal from the premises for a period ranging from one day to one year. Repeated violations may lead to restricted or terminated Library privileges, including the use of equipment.
