The Muid-Smith-Landor Sociocultural Family Stress Theory, Assessment and Theory of Change Trilogy Model

Join Dr. Onaje Muid for a conversation about his new book, The Muid-Smith-Landor Sociocultural Family Stress Theory, Assessment and Theory of Change Trilogy Model, and the connections between the Black Panther Party’s community programs, public health, and the development of his work.

Marking the 60th anniversary year of the founding of the Black Panther Party, Dr. Muid will explore the Party’s influence on WIC, school breakfast programs, and public health, and how this history informed the writing of his new book.

Grounded in the research of Shardé Smith and Antoinette Landor, Dr. Muid’s book expands the classic ABC-X stress model to address the chronic, daily realities of marginalized families navigating Mundane Extreme Environmental Stress (MEES), including systemic racism, classism, and institutional discrimination. Moving beyond deficit-based approaches, the book bridges theory and real-world practice by equipping counselors, social workers, and therapists with a standardized 25-axis diagnostic assessment tool and a Theory of Change model. Drawing on Solution-Focused Short-Term Therapy, the framework centers family resilience, addiction recovery, collective cultural assets, kinship networks, systemic advocacy, and community empowerment.

Ava’s Farm will also be at the event, offering free fresh fruits and vegetables, parfaits, salads, and more for community members to take home and enjoy.
