Yusef Miller is back with a powerful lecture exploring the road to freedom for people of African descent on the journey to becoming American citizens.
Spanning from the Revolutionary War in 1775 to the end of the Civil War in 1865, this lecture will highlight key milestones that set the United States on the path toward ending chattel slavery, including:
- The Declaration of Independence
- The War of 1812
- The Missouri Compromise of 1820
- The Compromise of 1850
- The Kansas-Nebraska Act
- And more
Mr. Miller will also examine the deeper meaning of Juneteenth, not as a gift to African Americans, but as the result of a hard-earned fight. It marked “step one” in a long journey that continues to this day and beyond.
