Artificial intelligence is already changing how we work, learn, create, communicate, and find information. At the same time, the way we encounter news has shifted from newspapers and scheduled broadcasts to a constant stream of headlines, social media, notifications, websites, and algorithms. With more information reaching us faster than ever, how do we decide what to trust?
This facilitated community conversation will explore the opportunities and concerns emerging as AI becomes more deeply woven into everyday life and the information we consume. Participants will consider questions about trust, responsibility, media, and the boundaries of AI: What risks should we be paying attention to? Who should help determine how AI is used? How can we assess whether the information we see and hear is reliable? And how is a nonstop news cycle shaping the way we understand and respond to the world around us?
This program centers conversation among participants. A facilitator will guide the discussion while creating space for people to share experiences, hear different perspectives, ask questions, and think through these issues together. No special knowledge of AI or media is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to take part.
Bridging Blocks is a series of neighborhood discussions designed to bring together culturally and politically diverse households for civic dialogue and understanding. This program is presented in partnership with The Free Library of Philadelphia, PECO, and WHYY.
Light refreshments will be provided.
