The J. Lewis Crozer Library is thrilled to announce the launch of our Game Lab, made possible by a generous grant from the Caesar’s Foundation. This innovative initiative is redefining the way our community engages with learning and social-emotional growth.
The Game Lab, housed in the Library’s Community Room, is designed to address post-COVID learning loss and the rising social-emotional learning (SEL) needs of our youth. By blending gaming technology, game design, and educational content, this program equips participants with 21st-century literacy skills, fosters self-awareness, and nurtures connection through engaging and accessible experiences.
The library is currently collaborating with Dr. William Nation, a psychologist from Johns Hopkins University, to develop high-quality approaches that merge gaming with academic content. Dr. Nation’s expertise in integrating gaming into therapy and fostering connection within groups ensures the program will holistically support participants’ educational and social-emotional needs.
This project addresses the critical need for equitable educational resources in Chester, where local youth have long faced significant challenges, exacerbated by the pandemic. The Game Lab seeks to break down these persistent barriers by providing a safe space for exploration, creativity, and lifelong learning, while empowering youth to build essential skills for their future success.
